Arles

People may think at Vincent Van Gogh once mentioned Arles. However, for this tour to Arles, it's all about photography. We went there for a photo exhibition called Les Rencontres d'Arles 2013. After passed through the Arena and some alleyway, we arrived the Place de la République, where the ticket office is located.

After that, we went to watch the exhibition of Jacques Henri Latique's photos. He was famous at his sports and car racing photos. He was granted a Brownie No. 2 as present when he was a child, and he started to take photos to become a professional photographer. In the exhibition hall, Église des Trinitaires, for sure, there are a lot his sports and car racing photos. Also, there are some stereographs, which we have to use a stereoscope to view the pseudo 3D images, and some aerochormes, one of the earliest technology for color photography. Aero homes are very grainy and the colors can not render as precise as nowadays.

The second place we reached is a bookstore. A well-known postwar Japapnese street photographer, Daido Moriyama. He is famous at his high contrast street photography. He was having the book signing even. So we just go to meet the master.

Finally, we went to Unveil-Devoiler, the opening event organized by Holga inspired and Le magazine Jouets. Yoav Horesh, a former professor from SCAD Hong Kong, has presented our project "Control?" In this boutique. This is a project fully utilizing the Holga cameras to accomplish in a month. We separate the project into three parts. Controled by "Time", "Direction", "Out of Control". For "Time", all photographers took photo at the same time in the same day in different part in Hong. For "Directions", all photographers has to follow the instruction assigned to photograph. For "Out of Control", all photographers are at the same place to pass the camera around to capture images.
